Research Initiatives
Tokyo Polytechnic University has established research centers such as the Wind Engineering Research Center and the International Research Center for Color Science and Art. Notably, the former has been recognized by Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) as a joint usage/research center, responsible for strengthening the foundation of academic research in Japan and developing new academic research. Each center has been highly acclaimed for its research content and is at the forefront of cutting-edge research in a well-developed research environment.
Introduction of Facilities
International Research Center for Color Science and Art
As the only international research center for color science and art at a university in Japan, this center explores 'color', a university-wide theme shared by both the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Arts and rooted in the university's origins in photography, printing, and optics.
Wind Engineering Research Center
Selected for MEXT's Academic Frontier Promotion Program, the Wind Engineering Research Center was established as an institute to research and facilitate harmony between wind and humankind. The Center advances research covering three main themes: Construction of a Wind Hazard Mitigation System, to reduce damage to cities and buildings from typhoons, tornadoes and other extreme winds; Construction of a Ventilation Design Method, dealing with the use of natural ventilation to conserve energy; and Construction of a System to Assess Air Pollution Issues, aimed at improving indoor and outdoor air pollution levels.
Shadai Gallery
Founded in 1975, the Shadai Gallery stands as a pioneering institution in the history of photography in Japan. It exhibits, collects, and researches outstanding photographic works (original prints) from both domestic and international sources, serving as a center for photographic education and research. The gallery was officially designated as a "museum-equivalent institution" in February 2023.
